Fake news again and something fun to learn in catch-up week

Fake news again!

The issue of fake news is still very much in the news. BBC Newsround have released a video this week on how to spot fake news which we thought you would find useful. The tips they give are relevant for assessing any information you may find on the internet.
Watch the minute and a half video below:

For more information and another quiz go to BBC Newsround - Fake news: What is it? And how to spot it.

Napkin folding

We hope you have been having a well-earned rest.
As it's catch up week we thought you might like to have a go at learning a different skill - just for fun - or perhaps you are a catering student and will find these ideas for napkin folding useful. It looks like origami with a napkin, but it could be something simple to master to impress your family and friends. The video is on YouTube, created by 5-minute crafts.

Have fun!

Using E-books

Searching for an E-Book using the library catalogue

Did you know that the library has access to over 350 E-books which you can access from a PC at any time day or night.
You can use E-books anywhere from home or at college and all of our E-books are linked from the library catalogue and should present in a catalogue search.
To search for E-books, go to advanced search on the catalogue:

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day.

On Tuesday it was Safer Internet Day.
In Library+ we are keen to make students aware of the risks of talking to people they don't know online.

Kayleigh's love story

Last year, Leicestershire police produced a video called Kayleigh's love story which they have taken round to schools and other youth settings. It documents a sever case of what can happen when young people are groomed online and it was made with the support of Kayleigh's family so that other young people can be made aware how serious it can be getting to know someone you have never met online.

This video would have a 15 certificate.

The UK Safer Internet Centre is focussing on sharing images online too and has prepared a quiz to help you understand what you should do when you receive images and video and to encourage everyone to think before they share images of other people.

Harry Potter Book Night

Peterborough Regional College Harry Potter Event

Every year in February the country celebrates Harry Potter Book Night. As this year is the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone we decided to mark it with a big celebration! Working with various other departments around the college we coordinated an event in the Enterprise Lounge which included owls, Wizard Chess, baked goodies, hair and make-up, potions, crafts and quizzes. As well as the activities in the Enterprise Lounge, a Quidditch match was also held in the Sports Hall.

The day was a great success, with the owls in particular proving to be a big hit. We would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved and to all those who came to the day.
